Welcome Back and Updates

Greetings NEA-Jurupa family,

Happy New Year! I hope that you all had an enjoyable and restful break. As we begin 2022 and the second half of the school year, we are definitely going to continue to face the challenges of our current reality and the surge of the Omicron variant.

I was in contact with the District a few times this past week, sharing concerns and asking for clarification as to protocols heading into next week. An email communication was sent out from the Superintendent (via Susan Worley) on Tuesday. I’ve also attached the most recent CTA Fact Sheet regarding Masking, Isolating, and Quarantining. This includes the updated CDPH and CAL/OSHA Guidance as of yesterday. Here is the District’s COVID-19 page for your reference. The District’s COVID-19 Symptom Decision Tree is also attached to this email (although it will be updated to reflect newest guidance).

The District is still honoring the COVID Supplemental Leave (up to 10 days). If you feel that you may qualify (and have not already exhausted the leave), please reach out to Human Resources.

A couple quick pieces of information regarding the return on Monday:

  • There is a very likely chance that both staff and student absences will be higher than normal. The District has been working diligently to hire subs (many of our retired folks will be subbing) to address the potential staffing shortages.
  • The At-Home Testing kits for students (from the State) were deployed to the sites for distribution next week.
  • N95 masks for staff have been sent to the sites. The District had a limited supply and has more on order. Supply chains shortages continue to be an issue everywhere.
  • Masks are required for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, in all indoor public settings.

Most importantly, please remember to be gentle with yourselves next week. You can only do what you can do.

Bargaining Survey: Please provide your input by Wednesday, January 12th. The survey will close at 4 p.m. The team will be meeting next week to go over the results.

Upcoming dates:

  • Wednesday, January 12th: NEA-Jurupa Executive Board Meeting
  • Monday, January 17th: MLK Holiday (No School)
  • Tuesday, January 18th: JUSD School Board Meeting (rescheduled from January 10th)
  • Wednesday, January 19th: NEA-Jurupa COVID Town Hall (more info to come)
  • Wednesday, January 26th: NEA-Jurupa Representative Council Meeting

Best to all of you and your loved ones. Sending well wishes for a Happy and Healthy 2022. Take care and please continue to stay safe and well.

In Unity-

Wendy Eccles 🙂
