Happy Friday & Memorial Day Weekend!

Good afternoon NEA-Jurupa Family,

Happy Friday and Memorial Day Weekend! We are almost there… The end to the most unprecedented school year in our lifetimes is coming to a close next week. Again, thank you to all of you for being amazing and flexible during this time, and for your continued grace, kindness, patience, and understanding. There continue to be more questions than answers at this time. Unless communications come from NEA-Jurupa or JUSD, please remember that those are not official and may not have all of the correct information.

Here are a few reminders before the weekend:

BARGAINING SURVEY: If you haven’t had an opportunity yet, please fill out this survey by Thursday, May 28th. The input you provide will assist the Bargaining Team as they negotiate how we will “reopen” in the fall. Thank you to those of you who have already completed the survey. If you have additional feedback, please feel free to reach out to me or to George Monge, NEA-Jurupa’s Bargaining Chair.

HEROES ACT: This emergency funding act has passed the House of Representatives and is on its way to the Senate. If passed, it would provide $3 Trillion in emergency funding to our nation’s neediest sectors, including $175 Billion for Education Stabilization. This money would help to offset the cuts to education proposed by the Governor. By clicking this link, you will be able to send letters to both of our California Senators and it only takes a couple of minutes.

STATE BUDGET: The May Revise presented by the Governor is just a proposal. The California Legislature will still be working on addressing and fixing the budget over the next few weeks. It must be passed by June 30th. Please consider calling 1-855-977-1770 TO SPEAK TO YOUR LEGISLATOR and provide them with the following:

  • Your name

  • Where you live

  • Ask them to support a budget with no cuts, no educator or school employee layoffs and prioritizes equity by repealing corporate tax credits.

Below are flyers for more information. When you call the number and input your zip code, you will be automatically connected to your state legislator’s office.

STAYING CONNECTED: Many of you may not check district email during the summer months. Checking in and updates will continued to be sent throughout the summer with the most up-to-date information. In addition, we will be having a couple Representative Council meetings and hopefully some summer wellness webinars/trainings. Please consider providing your personal contact information to your site representatives in case they need to reach out to you! It is more important than ever to remain connected to the Association.

Most importantly, don’t forget to take care of yourselves.

Hoping you are all staying safe and well! Enjoy the long weekend!

Best to you and your loved ones,

Respectfully-

Wendy Eccles 🙂
