Last Two Official Days…

Greetings NEA-Jurupa family,

Here we are, the last two official days of the most unprecedented school year ever.  My apologies in advance for the length of this email. I can only imagine the range of emotional, mental, and physical stresses that you are all feeling right now. We are exhausted and Zoomed/Google Meeted out, we have no knowledge of how things are going to look in the fall, we have so little control over the state of things. There are still more questions than answers. Hopefully, at least for a short while, you are able to take the opportunity to rejuvenate and relax, to unplug and unwind.

Attached above is recognition of our NEA-Jurupa Scholarship Winners, Site Representative and Association Recognition, and Retirees. Congratulations to All!!

BUT, Again, shouting it from the rooftops, you all have been AMAZING through this entire process and your grace, kindness, patience, and understanding has been truly appreciated. You are all so inspirational and complete ROCK STARS!!

The reality is that every single one of you are winners and Educators of the Year!!!.

As we close this chapter and begin the next one, it is more important than ever that our voices are heard. There are a multitude of ways in which this can be done:

BARGAINING SURVEY: If you haven’t had an opportunity yet, please fill out this survey by this evening. The input you provide will assist the Bargaining Team as they negotiate how we will “reopen” in the fall. Thank you to those of you who have already completed the survey. If you have additional feedback or information that you need us to know, please feel free to reach out to me or to George Monge, NEA-Jurupa’s Bargaining Chair.

DISTRICT SURVEY: Please consider completing the surveys send out by Dave Doubravsky asking for our members’ input into next year. All of this information will be used as we move forward. Links from his email have been included for reference:

“To assist us in how best to support you, we’d like your input or the upcoming year. Please take a few minutes and answer a couple of questions about your challenges and needs: Click Here

Additionally, we’d like your input for things to consider as we prepare to open in the fall: Click Here

HEROES ACT: This emergency funding act has passed the House of Representatives and is on its way to the Senate. If passed, it would provide $3 Trillion in emergency funding to our nation’s neediest sectors, including $175 Billion for Education Stabilization. This money would help to offset the cuts to education proposed by the Governor. By clicking this link, you will be able to send letters to both of our California Senators and it only takes a couple of minutes.

STATE BUDGET: The May Revise presented by the Governor is just a proposal. The California Legislature will still be working on addressing and fixing the budget over the next few weeks. It must be passed by June 30th. Please consider emailing using this link or calling 1-855-977-1770

TO SPEAK TO YOUR LEGISLATOR and provide them with the following:

  • Your name

  • Where you live

  • Ask them to support a budget with no cuts, no educator or school employee layoffs and prioritizes equity by repealing corporate tax credits.

Please see attached flyer above for more information. When you call the number and input your zip code, you will be automatically connected to your state legislator’s office. Here is CTA’s Statement on the Re-Opening of Schools and a letter sent to the State Budget Committee.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS: JUSD will be virtually holding their regularly scheduled School Board Meetings on June 8th and June 22nd. Links will be sent when they are available for anyone who interested in attending.

STAYING CONNECTED: “Checking In” and updates will continued to be sent throughout the summer with the most up-to-date information. We hope to have some summer wellness webinars/trainings and will share information about any upcoming CTA Trainings. You can view recorded trainings and webinars here. Please consider providing your personal contact information to your site representatives in case they need to reach out to you! It is more important than ever to remain connected to the Association and to your colleagues.

Again, please take time for yourselves this summer and that you find a place that brings you peace and solace, where you can close your eyes and just breathe…

May you find that happy spot!

Wishing you all a well-deserved and restful summer break. Please stay well!

Best to you and your loved ones,

Respectfully-

Wendy Eccles 🙂
