Checking In/Information/Updates

Greetings NEA-Jurupa Family,

Happy Friday and congrats on making it through “Week 0” of our new normal!

Although we’ve been in school all year, yesterday was like the first day, lots of great things and some inevitable hiccups. We are also aware of the inequities across grade levels and sites. Please know that we are addressing issues as quickly as we can and that this is a constant work in progress, especially because we’ve never done anything like this before. As things come up, the first step is to reach out to your site rep(s) and site admin(s), but don’t hesitate to reach out to your area director or me. Thank you for your continued compassion, empathy, grace, kindness, patience, and understanding.

*Just a quick reminder to please follow safety protocols including proper mask wearing and adhering to physical distancing of 6 feet*

Our number one goal continues to be the health and safety of our staff, students, families, and community.

I just happened to come across this article: “I Love My Students But I’m Done Neglecting My Own Kids for My Job”. It’s more important than ever to set boundaries, prioritize yourselves and your families, and say NO whenever you can. Educators are servants at the core and utterly dedicated to their students, but it should not be at our own expense…

NEA-Jurupa Rep of the Year: Your site reps have done an amazing job advocating for you this (and every) year! Please consider nominating your rep, especially if they’ve gone over and above! Awardees will be honored at our May Representative Council Meeting! See attached above for details.

NEA-Jurupa Scholarships: Each year, the Association gives out scholarships to high school seniors, honoring their outstanding academics, character, and service.

  • Christa McAuliffe Memorial Scholarship $1000 (one for each of the High Schools (4 total))
  • Don Krocker Vocational/Technical Education Scholarship $1000
  • NEA-Jurupa Scholarship for Dependent Children $1000
  • Karen Bell Service to Others Scholarship $500

Please see the attachments above for more information. Awardees will be honored at our May Representative Council Meeting.
