Checking-In/Important Updates

Good morning NEA-Jurupa family,

I hope that your week is going well! Only 2 more days until a much needed week off!!!

Here are a few important pieces of information for you. My apologies for the length of the email.

Tomorrow, JUSD Board of Education will be having a special meeting. There are a handful of agenda items that the board needs to approve before the end of the month. Additionally, outgoing Trustee Linda Chard will be recognized. On behalf of the Association, I would like to thank Mrs. Chard for her years of service to our district as a Parent, Staff Member, and Trustee. I wish her well on her future endeavors.

Board of Education Meeting: Date/Time: November 19, 2020

Public comments are currently being accepted online, until the agendized item is taken up for consideration by the Board.  A staff member will facilitate the reading of public comment submissions, consistent with the direction of the Board during “Public Comments.”

Public Comment Submission Form: The link typically opens 1 hour before Closed Session. For this meeting that would be at 1:30. (English):  https://forms.gle/qdW2M37aDdVtqNDM8

In December, we will be welcoming our two newly elected Trustees, Eric Ditwiler (TA 2) and Joseph Navarro (TA 4).

Virtual Paint and Sip Night: We will be hosting our first ever Virtual Paint and Sip Event on Friday, December 4th, from 4-6 pm. This will be done in coordination with Purple Easel at Ontario Mills. Materials for the event can be picked up there. Information about distribution will come later.

Please see attached flyer above for more detailed information. You can use this link to RSVP by December 1st. We hope that you are able to join us for a wonderful evening!

Return to School Survey: If you haven’t had the opportunity, we highly encourage you to complete it. The deadline is Friday, November 20th. This will help the Association in discussions and any type of negotiations we need to do in December. Given the current realities and surges in COVID-19, it is very likely that we will be in Distance Learning well into 20-21. Here is the survey link.

One of the most important pieces we will be discussing is Distance Learning schedules for the second half of the year. Many of you have already provided excellent questions/concerns that will be definitely be discussed with the District.

Confirmation Letter: By now you should have received a letter from the District in the mail to confirm employment date/credentials. Please make sure to return by December 4th. You can return via email, in-person, or mail to the Human Resources department.

Impact Teams: We met with the District yesterday and discussed ongoing concerns. Here is a synopsis of their response:

Presents a challenge across the board. Want to allow flexibility for teams across the district, varies site by site. District was asked to provide more clarity while still providing freedom and flexibility, and not being overbearing.

  1. If you need clarification, start with site admin. Communication is really hard right now.
  2. District doesn’t want to lose footing on the program, so they’ve scaled down to pieces that are most valuable.
  3. Trying to find ways to make things as efficient as possible.
  4. Stick to the three main focus points. Stick to the 45 minutes in your meetings, get done what you can.

I-Station: District will further look at how to address these concerns. Specifically, Oral Reading Fluency expectations.

Be A Hero Survey: Because of the difficulty in getting forms returned during the Pandemic, the district has Free/Reduced Lunch Alternate forms. They are doing a district wide push to get everyone to fill the forms out in order to get a more accurate view to support families/students.  Everybody is attempting to reach out to families. The survey is also featured on the district website landing page.

*Please remember that everything is always a work in progress. And please know that the Association is in constant contact with the District to address concerns/issues when they arise and always attempts to get them resolved as quickly as possible where we can.*

Also, it’s really important that you set boundaries for yourselves. Anything that can wait, should wait. You are doing the best that you can. If you don’t prioritize yourself, you’re no good to anyone else. Give yourself the attention, compassion, energy, and time that you deserve.

Best to you and your loved ones!

In Unity-

Wendy Eccles 🙂
